Who we are

Shadowmere Tales is a free browser game run by Rick (Azmodean) Edwards as a volunteer project, with help from volunteer admins. This page explains what the game keeps about you. Questions or requests: azmodean@shadowmeretales.com.

What we keep

• Your account: your Shadowlord name, your email address, and your password stored only as a one-way hash (we cannot read it).
• Your game: your kingdoms and everything you do with them, and what you write in chat, forums, mail and alliance pages.
• IP addresses and login times: the game records the IP addresses you log in from, to detect people running more than one account (see the Rules). Admins can see this.
• Cookies and browser storage: a session cookie keeps you logged in while you play. If you tick "Remember me on this device" a second cookie keeps you logged in for up to 30 days; logging out removes it. Your browser also stores a few display preferences (for example your last open panel). We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.

How we use it

• To run the game: logging you in, taking turns, showing rankings, chat, forums and mail.
• To email you about your account: verifying your address and resetting a forgotten password. We do not send marketing email.
• To enforce the Rules, including investigating multiple accounts, abuse and cheating.
• We do not sell your information and we do not run advertising or analytics on the game.

Who else handles it

• The game runs on a server hosted by Vultr.
• Account emails are delivered by Brevo.
• Backups of the game database (which include the information above) are kept on the server and in the owner's private cloud storage, and are removed on a rolling basis.
• Your Shadowlord name, kingdom names, rankings, and anything you post in chat, forums or alliance pages are visible to other players. Do not put personal information in them.
• We may disclose information if the law requires it.

Your choices

• You can delete your own kingdoms in the game, and delete your Shadowlord account from your account options. Deleting the account removes your login; some records (for example a name that appears in other players' history) can remain for a while.
• To see what we hold about you, or to have it corrected or removed, email azmodean@shadowmeretales.com from the address on your account.
• Inactive accounts may be removed automatically.

Children

The game is a text-based strategy game and is not aimed at young children. If you are under 13 please do not register. If you believe a child has registered, email us and we will remove the account.

Changes

We may update this policy; the date at the top shows when it last changed. Continuing to play after a change means you accept it. Our Rules, Terms and Conditions also apply.
